Look to Jesus, Not Your Symptoms

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:14-15

“Do you remember the dream I had about you years ago?” asked my girlfriend recently. She proceeded to retell a dream that has stood out in her mind for years. It took place before I started the healing rooms, during a time that I was desperate for God to heal me.

In the dream she saw my husband, son, and I in a setting where there was a cafeteria. I was hungry, but I couldn’t find the entrance, as it was concealed by palm tree branches. I walked over to where these palm tree branches were and moved them away to one side with my hand. Immediately, I saw an emblem of a serpent held up on a pole standing at the entrance. After looking at it I went into the cafeteria and saw all kinds of food available to eat. Initially, I thought “I can’t eat anything here!”  She said, the point was that you needed to sit down and start eating God’s Word for your healing.

I had never looked up the Scriptural references to “a serpent put on a pole” in relationship to this dream. As I prayerfully studied and meditated on its meaning, especially in relationship to this dream along with four other events that had just taken place, it was like a light bulb being turned on! I understood like never before the significance of this dream not only for me but for you – for the body of Christ.

The bronze serpent hanging on a pole is one of the clearest types given in the Old Testament of the saving work of Jesus Christ. Because the Israelites sinned against God and against Moses, fiery serpents were sent, causing many of them to die. As the Israelites cried out for mercy, Moses prayed for them and followed God’s instructions for their salvation – for their healing.  “So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.” Numbers 21:9

No logical reasoning could have them conclude that looking at this image of a bronze serpent on a pole could reverse the curse of sin and death. But, those were God’s instructions. Anyone who looked at the means God was using for their salvation was healed. When Jesus explained His atoning work of the cross, He referred to this redemptive symbol of the bronze serpent lifted up on a pole. (See John 3:14-15 above)

In the face of all contrary evidence and all contrary symptoms, look boldly at Jesus and declare “By His stripes I was healed.”  1 Peter 2:24

Looking at Jesus, believing in Who He is and what He did for you hanging on the cross, is the means for your salvation, both spiritually and physically. If the Israelites under the Old Covenant could look at the type of Atonement, receiving both spiritual and physical healing, how much more for you and I who are under the New Covenant. Unfortunately, however, many Christians have had this Truth concealed from them. Today, God wants you to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that by looking at Christ you can receive both forgiveness of your sins and the healing of your body.

In the midst of the pain coursing through your body or whatever bodily symptoms you may be having, God is calling you to look at Jesus. Look at Jesus Christ, the One Who bore both your sin and your sickness on the cross. Jesus did not do this in fellowship with you, instead Jesus took your sin, sicknesses, diseases and pain in the place of you.  “He Himself” did it as your substitute. (Matt. 8:17)

Yes, look away from your symptoms that are trying to dictate whether or not you are healed. Instead, look at Jesus! Every time a symptom arises, use it as a reminder to look at the victory Jesus Christ has already won for you on the cross. In the face of all contrary evidence and all contrary symptoms, look boldly at Jesus and declare “By His stripes I was healed.” (1 Peter 2:24 personalized)

Say what He says, not what your symptoms says based on the finished work of the cross and His glorious resurrection! Stand on the eternal Word of God declaring your redemption – spirit, soul, and body by the blood of the Lamb of God. And sing heaven’s song – the song of victory, the song of the Lamb of God!
