TESTING WHAT YOU HEAR

and the sheep hear His voice…  He goes before them; and the sheep follow Him, for they know His voice.  John 10: 3-4

Perhaps you have agreed with the lie that other people hear the voice of God, but you do not? Norma Letinsky once believed this lie, thinking her husband Michael had this gift but she did not. When she learned “How to Hear God’s Voice,” the approach they are now teaching, she began to enjoy a deeper intimacy with God, as she grew in hearing God’s voice.

This past week Yudit’s response to practicing the “4 Keys to Hearing God’s Voice and 2 Way Journaling” sums up what most people will experience, if they repeatedly use these keys (stillness, vision, spontaneity, and journaling) to hear God’s voice.  “This exercise freed me up so much!  It was an eye-opener! …  It was like ‘Oh, my God’ I am hearing His voice and I kept writing and writing and writing!”

“This exercise freed me up so much!  It was an eye-opener! …  It was like ‘Oh, my God’  I am hearing His voice and I kept writing!”

When you first begin utilizing these keys for talking with God, however, the question “Is this really Jesus?” will probably come to your mind, just like it did for Yudit.  Because Jesus said, “… the sheep hear and know His voice…”, Michael Letinsky encourages you to expect with child-like faith that you are going to hear God’s voice.

But, how can you recognize if what you are hearing is really God’s voice? One of the greatest litmus tests is if it is consistent with God’s love – His core identity.  God’s voice sounds and looks like Jesus’s words during His life and ministry, especially Jesus’ work through the cross. The apostle Paul gives further insight into the characteristics of God’s love:  “Love is patient… kind… does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth… hopes all things… never fails…”  (1 Cor. 13:4-8)

Not only will God’s voice have the tone of love, but it will possess the qualities of heavenly wisdom (James 3:17) and prophesy (1 Cor. 14:3), the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and will always be consistent with Biblical Truth.  For further insight into discerning between God’s voice, your own voice, and the devil’s voice, I highly encourage you to listen to Session #2 “Testing What You Hear and Quieting Your Mind” taught by Norma and Michael Letinsky.

May you hear God’s voice like never before!
