Adjacent to the front counter of the dive shop we visited this past week stood a product called “EarShield”. I asked the manager of this shop how it worked. He replied that there is a unique blend of oils that cleanses and conditions the ear, repelling water that can cause swimmer’s ear. He said it worked similar to “Rain-X”.
If “EarShield” could work in the ears, as good as Rain-X did, I knew I would be very impressed. Fourteen years ago, I had used Rain-X on the windows of a rental car for the first time on an East Coast trip. The night prior to this, I was driving in a snowstorm and the windshield wipers were so ineffective in removing the snow and ice that my visibility was reduced to a small hole below the rear-view mirror. God’s “Ear Shield” protects your hearing in two ways. First, it acts like a spiritual weather app, warning you about the adverse weather conditions, so that you don’t put yourself in harm’s way. Second, it gives faith (Rom. 10:17), God’s perspective, causing the words from this world and the kingdom of darkness to be repelled. According to Ephesians 6:16 your faith in God and His Word acts like a shield, repelling or quenching every counterfeit word created by the wicked one.
