Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me… shall never die. Do you believe this? John 11:25
On earth Jesus walked with a conscious awareness of His true identity. His “I AM” statements revealed His complete union and oneness with God. Every time He proclaimed His “I AM” name, the superior reality of heaven took dominion over every other name here on this earth.
When Lazarus, the one Whom He loved died, Jesus declared “I am the resurrection and the life.” Mary, Martha, and their surrounding friends were too caught up in the sorrow of Lazarus’ death and their own reasoning that they could not comprehend Jesus’ proclamation. They could not comprehend the present tense reality of His Name. They could not comprehend that His name would preside over death itself.
Despite the unbelief of his close friends, Jesus continued to stand in His Name, in His identity as the resurrection and the life. When “He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus come forth!” death lost its grip and Lazarus was raised from the dead. (John 11:42)
When Jesus rose from the dead, He demonstrated beyond a shadow of doubt the supremacy of His name, “I am the resurrection and the life.” History records it! History not only records Jesus’ death on the cross and HIs burial, but it records His glorious resurrection from the dead! The heavily guarded tomb where Jesus’ dead body laid was found empty!
In Revelation 1:18 Jesus declares, “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen!” Jesus is now alive! He is seated at God’s right hand “far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but the age to come.” (Ephesians. 1:19-20) And guess what? As a Christian, one whose identity is in Christ, you are seated with Him in the heavenly places far above every name that is named. (Eph. 2:8)
Just as Jesus walked in His true identity every day of his life, it is your privilege and honor to walk in your true identity, declaring who you truly are in Christ in the face of all opposition. Today and every day of your life, keep the name of Jesus Christ in the center of your heart and upon your lips. Allow your conversations to focus on Who He is as the great “I AM”! As you do this, every other name that is tormenting you must bow its name to our Most High God!
